NAME:
The name Brook Oaks was chosen for the Neighborhood Association to honor the old landmark Brook Avenue Elementary School ( which was rebuilt in 1999 and serves our neighborhood once again) and the numerous stately Oak Trees still growing within the neighborhood.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the association, as defined by the bylaws, is to unite and organize the community; to promote and establish closer neighborhood ties; and to encourage and assist in the restoration, preservation, and improvement of the neighborhood.
GOALS:

GOALS:
- To support education of our youth by supporting our neighborhood schools-Brook Avenue& West Avenue elementary.
- To support affordable housing efforts in our area (Habitat for Humanity, Waco CDC, Neighborworks Waco, EDC Homes).
- To eradicate crime and drugs by working with the Police and our neighbors to make our neighborhood safe.
- To educate our community on code enforcement and housing issues.
NRS GOALS:
Brook Oaks Neighborhood Association also supports the goals of the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy (NRS) as defined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The NRS was created through a rigorous community input process in 2009. The following goals are supported by Brook Oaks Neighborhood Association:
Business
- Improve the appearance of the neighborhood
- Improve the perception and reality of safety in the neighborhood
- Attract new businesses
- Build collaborations throughout the community
- Improve existing housing
- Increase capacity of the bus system to serve a larger population
- Connect the neighborhood with downtown
- Improve the walkability of the neighborhood, especially to local businesses
- Build a new recreation center at the Dewey Park
